Mercedes Dauphinais | Suzanne's Warriors

heart   In Loving Memory of Suzanne E. Dauphinais.   heart

Saturday, March 24, 2018, is the Pink Vail event to support patients and survivors at our local cancer center and we need your support!  Pink Vail, Shaw Cancer Center, Spirit of Survival, and Jack's Place were SO GOOD to Mom.  Now, in her honor, I humbly request we be good to them...  so they may go forth to do more good!

Pink Vail is the world's biggest ski day to conquer cancer. Proceeds benefit all patients at Shaw Cancer Center through enhancements to patient care and by funding the Spirit of Survival program; providing all patients the opportunity to receive free exercise training, nutrition coaching, emotional support, massages, acupuncture, outdoor adventures, and much more. These unique services can dramatically impact a patient's quality of life, but are not typically covered by insurance.

Unlike most participants, I can't dress in a crazy pink costume and hit the hill to incentivize you.  HOWEVER...  I was recently thinking how much I've been enjoying the length of my hair, watching and wondering how long it will grow.  I realized in a very intense moment what a luxury that is, a luxury so many don't have.  Then I put two and two together and thought, if those other cancer organizations use lack-of-hair-solidarity to raise funds, why can't we?  When we raise the cash, our dear father has agreed to be my barber, and we'll send my 28" tresses off to some fabulous organization (yet to be determined) that doesn't mind a bit of grey; to make hair for someone who needs it more than I.

Mom loved her threes, but shooting for $3,333 didn't seem like quite lofty enough a goal.  We also know she was a real go-get-er after all.  I called my brother Patrick and said, "Do you think $7,333 is too much to set as a goal?"  His response??  "No, I think it should be $9,333!"  3x3=9, okay I get the logic, and that's quite the goal to meet in a month!  But, hey, Mom was known to say if you don't shoot for the moon, you'll never land among the stars.  SO, that's our goal.  $333.32 per inch of hair (WHAT?! I just now figured that out.  Okay, that's awesome.  Love you, Mom!!)  Or, $155.55 per approximate number of months she was part of the Shaw family benefiting from their wonderful programs.

There's no doubt Suzanne's eldest son has set an audacious goal for this year.  But, if we calculate it out, it's not so bad...  Some combination of 28 people who feel moved to give $333?  $23.33 per person who attended Mom's memorial, or less if you count the hundred or so who said they wished they could have been there?  $311.10 a day?  $5 per person I'm connected to on FB?  There are all kinds of possibilities, and every dollar helps!!

It is rare for a rural, resort town to provide such comprehensive care, and, truly, Shaw exists because of generous donors, passionate volunteers, and talented clinicians who are dedicated to restoring the health of their patients.

Please support this great cause! To make a donation IN LOVING MEMORY OF SUZANNE DAUPHINAIS and help us reach our fundraising goal, click on the "Donate Now" button to the right.

Thank you for your support!

With LOVE  & DEEP GRATITUDE from The Dauphinais Family!!!

P.S.  For those who are unaware of Mom's connection to the number 3...  Suzanne Dauphinais was born at 3:33 on December 3rd, she was the 3rd child and the 3rd granddaughter, thus (among a few other reasons,) her affinity for the number 3.  She was also called Home at 3:33 a.m.

P.P.S.  If you would like to join our team, the link is  https://www.pinkvail.com/Warriors .  We'd love to have you join our ranks if you fancy a good time for a great cause in honor of a wonderful woman all decked out in PINK.  And, here's a fun idea too...  if you'd like to be one of Suzanne's Warriors, even if you can't come to the event itself, you are welcome to register for the event.  The small registration fee adds to our fundraising total, and you get to be one of Suzanne's Warriors in spirit.  You know she'd LOVE that.  :)  If you are in the area and do want to attend, you don't have to plan to ski, or you can.  We'll probably meet up at the base of the hill at 11:00, have a photo taken together, enjoy a bit of music and a few laughs, and each go on to enjoy the day however we choose.

P.P.P.S.  There will, of course, be a video of the shearing posted to Mercedes' Facebook page as part of us holding up our end of the bargain.  Feel free to friend or follow at  www.facebook.com/MercedesD  if you'd like to get the notification when the time comes!

P.P.P.P.S.  (Oy! ;) )  Including team donations, as of the morning of 3/23, we are currently at $7,489... 80% of our goal!  WOOHOO!!!  Dollar by dollar, we're getting there.  THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL!!!  Every contribution that has come in, from the single penny to the $1,000 contribution, all of them come together to honor a beautiful woman and her wonderful legacy of being there for those in need of a helping hand.  THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!
