Pink Vail Participant
Lisa Stoffel | Colors of Courage
On Saturday, March 25, 2017, I will be participating in Pink Vail to support patients, like my father-in-law Big T and survivors, like myself !, at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center and I need your support.
Proceeds from Pink Vail directly benefit patient care and survivorship programs at Shaw Regional Cancer Center that includes free fitness classes, nutrition coaching, and emotional support services for patients, survivors, and their families. Each area is staffed with experts not only in their field but with special training and certifications to work with cancer patients.
When I was a patient, Tom and I got a great deal of value out of these services to help us manage the shock and treatment phase without sinking under the weight of my diagnosis. We worked one-on-one with a trainer at the Fit for Survival Gym, attended Restorative Yoga classes, had massage and acupuncture treatments all free of charge. As I transitioned from patient to survivor, I attended Expressive Art classes to facilitate my recovery and healing.
Post treatment, I was a pilot participant in novel nutrition and exercise program called SLIM FOR SURVIVAL to help reduce my rate of cancer recurrence. I lost over 20 pounds, reduced my BMI over 4 points and got strong! It is more than 1 1/2 years since I completed the program and still live the SLIM FOR SURVIVAL lifestyle.
My father-in-law is also getting great value from these free services funded by Pink Vail. Given his surgery for pancreatic cancer, he had to learn how to manage his nutrition with food modification and medications. The nutritional support he receives at Shaw is invaluable. He also has been receiving massage therapy and goes to the Expressive Arts class with me! We are still trying to get him to the gym
It is rare for a rural, resort town to provide such comprehensive care, and, truly, Shaw exists because of generous donors, passionate volunteers and talented clinicians who are dedicated to restoring the health of their cancer patients. We are LUCKY to have it right here in our backyard!
Please support me in this great cause! This year I am excited to have my sister and brother-in-law join me to ski in Pink Vail. Join our team or make a donation on my behalf and help me reach my fundraising goal, click on the "Donate Now" button to the right.
Thanks for your support!
